In wake of post-election outbreak of racial and religious harassment, ACLU reminds superintendents of duty to protect students.
“We are disappointed by Gov. Hutchinson’s threat to prevent Syrian refugees from settling in Arkansas. By turning his back on those fleeing a brutal conflict and seeking a safe place for themselves and their children, Governor Hutchinson dishonors the values of the hospitable people of Arkansas and the ideals upon which this great country was founded.
The Governor signed a bill that mirrors the federal RFRA. While better, it is still flawed, and unnecessary to protect religiuos liberty.
House Bill 1228, called the "Conscience Protection Act" - by Rep. Bob Ballinger, R, Hindsville and Sen. Bart Hester, R, Cave Springs (both near Springdale): Seems to protect religious liberty, but actually allows people--and businesses--to use religion to discriminate against others.

See attached letter to Department of Justice asking for an investigation of the Hot Springs, AR shooting range that has declared itself a "Muslim Free Zone." This is the second letter the ACLU has sent to the DOJ asking for an investigation. According to two news reports, a Hindu father and son were questioned before being allowed to shoot because they were perceived to be Muslim.
