What’s Happening
Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has officially approved allowing the Trump administration to take control of Arkansas's National Guard troops to support the inhumane crackdown on immigration. Whether these troops are being used here in Arkansas or sent to other states, one thing is clear: they are being weaponized against immigrant communities — and against everything we believe in as Arkansans.
This deployment is a direct threat to our civil liberties and constitutional rights. It escalates fear in our communities, puts families at risk, and represents a chilling abuse of state power.
This is not public safety. This is political violence. And we will not be silent.
The use of military personnel to carry out or assist in immigration enforcement or any other law enforcement activity is not only extreme and unprecedented — it is deeply unlawful. These actions:
- Violate constitutional limits on the use of military in civilian law enforcement
- Risk unlawful detention, racial profiling, and violence against community members
- Create confusion and chaos in immigrant neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces
- Divert our National Guard from natural disaster relief and true emergencies
- Set a dangerous precedent for authoritarian policing across the country
We have already seen the harm these policies create: masked agents surrounding homes, parents arrested in front of children, and deportations carried out with no due process. Now, with troops on the streets, that harm — and that fear — is amplified.

Why This Matters
This is not just about immigration policy. It’s about who we are as a state and a country. We cannot allow our National Guard — funded by our tax dollars and sworn to protect us — to be used to racially profile Americans, hunt down neighbors, terrorize families, and erode the line between civilian and military authority.
If you are not at risk of arrest or deportation, your voice and your action are urgently needed. Now is the time for people with power, privilege, and platforms to stand up, speak out, and defend the communities under attack.
