LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The American Civil Liberties Union of Arkansas (ACLU) has united with other social justice groups and lawyers across Arkansas to work with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law and their National Commission on Voting Rights to provide a voting and election hotline for Arkansas voters.
With the national voter hotline 1-866-OUR-VOTE (1-866-687-8683) which is staffed year-round and Election Day field program, these groups will guide voters through the voting process by answering questions from voters such as how to check their registration, when and where they vote, questions about the voting process, and offer advice on troubleshooting any obstacles at the polls. The Commission tracks voting problems such as voter intimidation, not having access to the polls, being denied a ballot and, in conjunction with the ACLU of Arkansas and other partner groups, provides legal resources and voter information throughout the year.
“We are excited to partner with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law to enhance our voting and election protection work. To have the most impact, it’s important that we all work together towards the same goal -- protecting Arkansas voters,” said Rita Sklar, Executive Director of the ACLU of Arkansas. “With legislators introducing so many bills that hamper the voting process every legislative session, this collaboration is vital.”
